For homework, you’re going to watch a short clip from The Office and focus on connected speech. You'l be noticing how native speakers connect words, reduce sounds, and speak naturally in conversation.
1. Watch the Clip
Please watch the clip at least 2–3 times.
First time: Just watch and enjoy the scene.
Second time: Pay attention to how the actors pronounce words.
Third time (optional): Pause and replay parts that are difficult.
2. Find Examples of Connected Speech
As you listen, try to identify examples of:
- Contractions
- Reductions
- Linking
- Assimilation
- Geminates
- intrusion
- elision
- assimilation
3. Shadowing Practice
Choose 2 sentences from the video and practice saying them out loud.
Try to copy:
- pronunciation
- rhythm
- stress
- intonation
Repeat each sentence at least 3 times.
